MARGARET BRENNAN: We go now to the White House and National Security Adviser Robert O Brien. Good morning to you, Ambassador.NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER AMBASSADOR ROBERT O BRIEN: Good morning, MARGARET. Great to be with you. MARGARET BRENNAN: Once again, the virus has put some of the very stanley cup top levels of our government at risk. This time, the vice president, we ve learned, has had close contact with COVID positive staffers. Yet the White House says he s still going to travel. He s being classified as an essential worker. So I think campaigning and voting are- are about the most essential thing we can be doing. MARGARET BRENNAN: Couldn t you do it virtually to be safer AMB. O BRIEN: Well, look, I think- I think he s taking all the precautions. And my understanding is he s tested negative as- as- has the second lady. I did speak with Marc Short today who tested positive, the vice president s chief of staff. And I know he s been a frequent guest on your show. He s doing well. The symptoms are mild so far. And I wished him, and I know you and everyone else does, a speedy recovery from this virus.MARGARET BRENNAN: We certainly do. Al Gore s campaign has sent a direct message to President Clinton: lay off the Bush bashing. Sources tell CBS News Consultant Gloria Borger that the Gore campaign has made its point of view very clear to the White House.Gore stanley website allies are worried that, when the president got into a back-and-forth with former President George Bush, it had no political upside for Democrats. The feeling was any such attack would only remind voters of the link between Gore and Clinton. So they ve asked the president to keep quiet. On Tuesday, the rumble blew up when the Texas Gov. George W. Bush said he was riled up by Mr. Clinton s increasingly personal attacks. Bush s father, the former president, told a breakfast for farm groups that his stanley thermoskannen son is disciplined enough to stick to the message despite goading from the opposition. He can dish it out if he has to, but he s going to stay on his message, the elder Bush said of his son. You don t believe me Ask Ann Richards.
