The exercise aimsed to improve the capabilities of the Southern Region to perform disaster response operations and to train personnel from Hungarian defence forces, who had the chance to enhance experience in planning for multinational operations. Nevertheless, she competed on the European championships in Brussels on flooring and beam and qualified for the ground final, from which she eventually gave up her spot to let her teammate Myzdrikova (who went on to win the silver medal) compete. She admitted that it was emotionally devastating for her to observe her teammate Liu Xuan take the beam gold. Semyonova positioned first in the all-round competitors at the 2009 European Championships in Milan, Italy, just forward of her teammate Afanasyeva.
