British punk rock band the Clash, featured on their critically acclaimed 1977 debut album, which was launched in the United States in July 1979 as their second album after Give 'Em Enough Rope. In keeping with the story often informed by the song's authors Joe Strummer and Jones, including on the documentary Westway to the World, the change came about by Strummer mishearing the song's title when Jones played it to him throughout their first meeting at their Davies Road squat. Louder Than Love would grow to be the band's first album to chart on the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 108. The band supported the album with tours of North America and Europe. After touring in help of their debut album, Ultramega Ok (1988), Soundgarden left SST, signed with A&M and began work on its first album for a major label. |
