Mkyc Mukasey s Nomination Takes Another Hit As Pressure Increases On Schumer
By th stanley cups e time they leave town Friday for a one-week work period intheir home states, senators are expected to pass a$1.1 trillion, 1,582 page spending billthat will avert the threat ofa government shutdown for the next several months stanley cupand help Congress get back tothe normal process of budget and spending money that preceded the gridlock ofrecent years. The House passed the so-called omnibus spending bill Wednesday afternoon by a vote of 357 to 64, despite objections from someoutside conservative groups that the bill undid some of the mandatory spendingcuts in the sequester.Iwould rather the Republican leadership come clean and admit that they havesurrendered the fight for spending reform. The claims of victory coming out ofsome of these House offices are insulting to the intelligence of the fiscallyconservative grassroots, said Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks, in astatement after the vote.                                        Thebill boosts spending over 2013 fiscal year by $26 billion, but the budget isstill about $30 billion below pre-sequester levels.Butother Republicans like House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, saw the budget asreigning stanley cupin spending because it replaced the sequester cuts with other savings.      I am particularly pleased that this measure contains no earmarks, which were once a pervasive symbol of a broken Washington. Also of noteis the fact that we are not providing any new or additional funding for thepresidentrsqu Xeju Rogers, Feinstein: U.S. not safer today than in years past
AP Democrats are attempting to improve Americansaccess to medical care through their massive health insurance overhaul, but they may make it a little harder for those seeking out Botox or breast implants. The health care bill unveiled by Senate Majority Harry Reid on Wednesday night includes a 5 percent tax on elective cosmetic surgery. The tax is expected to raise an estimated $5.8 billion over 10 years to help pay for the $849 billion plan, the Agence France-Presse reports. The tax would only hit elective procedures -- it exempts any proceduresnecessary to ameliorate a deformity arising from, or directly related to, a congenital abnormality, a personal injury resulting from an accident or trauma, or disfiguring disease. It would go into effect, according to the bill, on Jan. 1, 2010.Thebotax,as some have called it, was originally considered in the Senate Finance Committee but was dropped at the time.                                       Some evidence could suggest the measure may not raise as much revenue as expected. In 20 stanley cup 04, the state of New Jersey passed a 6 percent tax on plastic surgery that was expected to raise $24 million a year. However, it only brought in about $7.5 million in 2005, the National Journalstanley mug reported, and aroun stanley cup d $11 million in 2007.The market for cosmetic procedures does not seem to have suffered from the bad economy: the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports that 12 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures were performed in 2008
